A regular group of four young people started attending the farm during term time in September 2024. They were all young people who had attended the farm previously, mainly as part of the Summer and Easter Programmes, some for a number of years.

Young people came as part of their work experience requirements for college, others as part of their home school programmes. For some, it is one of the few things they did all week. They were all aged between 15-19 and with neurodivergent conditions such as autism or ADHD.

Our favorite things about the farm:

  • Making & seeing friends
  • Moving cows & lambing sheep
  • Drinking tea
  • Learning about farming - sheep and cows
  • Working outdoors
  • Working in a team
  • The cat
  • Being given responsibility
  • Mark's Mum & Archie
  • Cute baby animals
Young people continued to attend the farm from 9.30am to 3.30pm through term time until the end of July 2025, and attendance was between 92% & 98% over the 38 sessions available.

Young people, supported by a volunteer, largely assisted Mark with the seasonal farming activities, whilst developing their own farming skills and
experience.

How coming to the farm has
helped us:

  • Have fun
  • Feel less depressed
  • Got me out of the house
  • Helped with confidence
  • Make friends and see them weekly
  • Being encouraged and learning new things
